Capri situated off the Coast of Sorrento in the Gulf
of Naples has been a celebrated resort island since
Roman times. It became a haven for writers and artists
in the early 19th century and has attracted national
and international glitterati ever since. The island
is separated into 2 distinct towns Capri and Anacapri,
with the town of Capri being the most populated. Lined
with Villas, Capri is the most famous jewel in the Gulf
of Naples with its crystal clear waters.

Many tourists come to Capri on a day trip however and
boasting a wide variety of bars, cafes, nightlife and
tourist attractions, at least a one-night stay is recommended!
Of course the food is sensational and the Caprese
salad of tomatoes and mozzarella cheese was invented
right here.
Tourist attractions include the famous central Piazza
of Capri with spectacular views overlooking Monte Solaro.
Cafes and bars line the Piazza and in the small streets
surrounding the Piazza you will find designer boutiques
and the biggest names in fashion.
The Faraglioni rocks, which appear on just about every
postcard, are the unofficial symbol of Capri. The Blue
Grotto known throughout the world and famed for its
intense blue colours is a must see. However, the opening
and the actual grotto is so tiny it is not recommended
for those that suffer from claustrophobia!
From Capri the other islands and towns in the Gulf
of Naples are easily accessible by boat. Other must
see destinations include the Amalfi, Ravello, Positano,
and Sorrento. The gorgeous island of Ischia with its
healing thermal waters and the fisherman island of Procida
are an essential part of any itinerary. |
